Creativity you say?

From pandemics to bushfires and incredibly inspiring protests, 2020 has been a challenging time for the human race. In looking for ways to bring us together in these times we landed on celebrating our collective creativity. With that in mind, we organised a simple 30-day creative challenge open to anyone within Atlassian.

The premise was simple. Create something every day for 30 days in the same material and theme.

Talk me through it.

It took just a few tools to pull everyone together. We used Confluence to put the word out and sign up participants.

Next, we fired up a Trello board to keep a track of everyone's work day-to-day and supplemented that with a Slack room for updates and moral support.

Finally, we used social media channels like our Atlassian Design twitter and the Instagram hashtag #30atlassiancreative to get the word out.

So how did it go?

There are two answers to that question. Running the 30 days was a breeze. People were engaged and it very easy to keep on top of what everyone was up to thanks to the async name of the tools we used.

The other side. The experience of being a participant, that was bit more…challenging

The repetition, the stress of pulling things out of your noggin’, the fear of then sharing it with others. There were plenty of emotions we all didn’t expect to feel.

That said, the team seemed glad to have done it. All 50 or so legendary Atlassians that took part. The satisfaction of looking back at a month’s worth of work, the encouraging comments (and inspiration) others gave along the way and most of all the incredibly inspiring work of others.

Some of the positive feedback from the participants

Check the title image (or Instagram hashtag) for a sense of the awesome work that was flooding the Trello board.

Thanks to everyone who got involved and cheered us on.

Don’t be shy

Hopefully, this inspires you to run something similar in your own company or team as we deal with this new remote world. People felt much more energised and connected from the experience. It was truly a reminder of all the positivity and creativity in our world.

We wanted to dedicate the rest of this blog spotlighting just a small sub-section of this incredible work.
