We’re seeking design thinkers, talented tinkerers and wannabe surfers…

Next month, myself, Becc, Matty and Ross from the Atlassian design team are headed to Europe in search of adventurous designers, researchers and design leads who want to swap Europe for some Sydney sunshine.

We will be visiting London, Amsterdam, Berlin and Stockholm interviewing people who want to join our ever growing Sydney design team. All you need to do is submit your portfolio and our talent team will be in touch. If you are ready, submit it now and you could be taking your first step to a new life in Sydney, Australia! If you get through the interview process, a sweet gig designing software in our beautiful heritage listed building in central Sydney, relocation package included awaits!

Why Atlassian?

In case you haven’t heard of Atlassian, we build team communication and collaboration tools. We are headquartered in Sydney and have been growing like crazy since we were founded 12 years ago. Last year we were voted the best place to work in Australia.

We have 15 products, with the most well known being JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket and HipChat. Our tools have helped NASA put robots on the mars and children to hear. We design products that matter and that make a real difference in people’s lives.

We foster an open and honest environment with our teams. Our company values (Read on for my favourite) are legendary, sacred and lived out in our everyday work. Each quarter we run ShipIt. This is a huge part of Atlassian and is one of the key ways we create an open sourced culture of collaboration and innovation. Find out what it is and why Atlassians rave about this thing called ShipIt.

What about the design team?

The design team in particular is growing as we move towards being an experience led company. Three years ago there were only 6 designers in the company. Now there are over 60, and we need more!

We tackle tough problems each day at work. Designing software that is used by millions of people everyday is no easy task. However, we do know that we haven’t nailed our core experience yet, which is why we are need to grow our design team. We work closely in triads with our engineering and product counterparts and build software in an agile environment. If you are up for tough design challenges, then we want to hear from you.

We recently had our annual Design Week event, where every designer from around the globe came to Sydney for a week of learning and working together. You can watch the wrap up video below.

My story

I am originally from England, but swapped the grey, dreary rain of London for the beaches of Bondi permanently back in 2006. I am now a fully fledged Australian citizen. There is something to be said for waking up and looking out over the beach at Bondi every morning. Whilst I still can’t claim to be catching waves before work (The surfing dream never materialised, although still lingers) the opportunity to hit the sand for a run, or take my daughter for a stroll along the promenade is pretty awesome.

I manage the Design Team on Confluence, Atlassian’s second largest product. We have a great product that is used by millions of people everyday, but we have some tough challenges ahead and I am keen to talk to anyone who wants to make a sea change and head to Australia.

My favourite company value: “Don’t #@!% the customer”. As a designer, the reason must be obvious!

Take the first step, submit your portfolio now and chat to our Talent team. Myself, Becc, Matty and Ross would love to meet you when we are in Europe!
