This past year has been filled with multiple crises. From COVID-19 to Australia and California’s wildfires to protests for racial justice, many people were impacted by the events of the world. Now couple this with being a college student struggling in classes that are demanding and rigorous, and it’s easy to see just how critical looking at young adults’ mental health is. Throughout the United States, 4 in 10 adults have reported symptoms of anxiety or depression, a statistic previously at 1 in 10 (Panchal et al. 2021). According to a BestColleges.com survey, 90% of college students experienced negative mental health symptoms due to virtual learning during the pandemic. Of course, there are ways to help struggling college students. A major key to solving this challenge is interpersonal communication (Becker 2021). Having these topics become a normal dialogue is essential, but students still struggle to communicate ideas around these topics openly.

Our Mission

This is where EmotiCards hopes to help. Our mission is to promote mental health and emotional wellness among college students through a fun, interactive card game experience. Our card game can be purchased anywhere games are sold, and is perfect for young adults looking to work through their feelings in a low-stakes, conversational way. EmotiCards works by increasing the communication pathways essential for proactive mental health and emotional care. Play with friends, or buy EmotiCards for the dorm and leave it in a common space so anyone can use them. Our card game works by combining a fun game with an important topic, therefore taking away the pressure of having difficult conversations. In this way, EmotiCards hopes to help students express their struggles to others who will understand and relate. Building community and understanding is the first step in addressing mental health issues.

How Our Business Works

All the funding for EmotiCards comes directly from the sales of our card game. Emoticards can be purchased on Amazon, Walmart, Target, Barnes and Noble, and anywhere else that board and card games are sold. By selling through various retailers, we increase the accessibility of our product to college students, but also to anyone else who would benefit from honest and open conversations with others. Whether that’s an RA who thinks their dorm could benefit from it or a counselor who needs it to facilitate conversations with his client, EmotiCards is there to help push communication forward. Today, we are happy to share that EmotiCards is available on all of the aforementioned platforms! Interested in trying EmotiCards out? Use promo code welcome15 for 15% off your purchase.
