The way we interact with media is changing. Social commentary is an integral part of how we consume entertainment, and it currently lives on platforms like Reddit and Twitter. But where these platforms have immense social capacity, they are distanced from the source material itself, leaving a gap that demands to be filled.

Social discussion is a critical part of how we consume media today.

While films have Letterboxd and music has Soundcloud, no one has built a meaningful way to passionately discuss books in the same place that they’re consumed. The reading world is in desperate need of a tool that can help you bring your thoughts, insights, and comments from the page to the world. There is so much magic in the notes we scribble in the margins of our books, magic that we believe should be shared. That’s where Apostrophe comes in!

Our mission is to make reading a collective experience, and foster an environment where ideas and people are connected to the micro-communities that are important to them. To do this, we are creating an all in one reading platform, where you can buy, read, and comment on your e-books. The most important thing is that your comments on Apostrophe actually matter.

We believe that every line is a kickstarter for speculation about what’s next, debates about characters, and geeking out about lore. That’s why with Apostrophe, you can make public notes by annotating your e-books as you read them — down to the individual line.

Discussion and reading in one place 🤯

The best part is how comments get shared. If you are reading a book for school, you can make sure you see your classmates’ notes. If you are part of a book club, you can make sure their comments are the one you see! Reading along with people from a fandom? Filter out comments with spoilers! You can curate your perfect social reading environment, with the micro-communities that you care about.

We are also planning on working closely with publishers and authors, to close the feedback loop in the publishing industry. With Apostrophe, being a fan goes beyond loving a book, it puts you in direct contact with the creators who are making it happen.

We’re building a social reading culture within your communities and between you and the creators you read.

We’re planning to launch our iPad app very soon. Right now, our team is building an amazing curation of e-books and building the best user experience for fun-havers everywhere. We’re especially passionate about serving the people who we know will appreciate social reading the most: students, book clubs, and fandoms. That’s why we’re working hard to ship special features like community groups, personal profiles, peer tagging, and comment threads under your annotations. Stay tuned for our public release later this year!

Stories were meant to be shared. Apostrophe is where that will happen.
