Announcing Carabinr– The world’s first hookup app for LGBTQ+ Non-Men

Hooking up can be messy. It can be hard to find the right partner — or any partners at all. And even when you do, you may not have the same expectations or desires, leading to a disappointing mismatch, especially when all of the apps on the market focus on more serious kinds of dating and don’t allow space for explicit sexual conversations.

This is the case for non-men, where apps like Tinder, Grindr, and Bumble may host hookups but not explicitly for non-men in the same way it is explicit for men and non-women. You may ask, are women as horny as men? Based on a study done on Tinder users, 47% of non-men are open hookups/one-night stands, and a simple Google search can prove that women do have strong sex drives equal to, if not more, than that of men. Queer women can find a safe space in Carabinr to explore and fulfill their needs without inhibition.

Our Mission

Carabinr gives queer non-men a platform to seek out sexual partners and to engage with one another in a safe and straightforward manner. Without the baggage or expectations of relationship-oriented dating apps, we aim to connect people and facilitate their engagement in…fun activities.

So how does it work?

Carabinr combines the best elements of pre-existing dating apps with a revolutionary new framework to give LGBTQ+ non-men the ideal platform on which to hook up. Carabinr remasters clunky grid systems on other dating apps into a clean and sleek — but still flirty — bubble grid sorted by distance and other filters (sexual orientation, gender identity, and more). Paid users can further filter potential matches with criteria like age, star sign, and kinks. Paid users can also set their locations to different places, for connecting with people before traveling to a new place. Unlike other apps, we have heavy moderation on racist, ableist, and body shaming language, and we do not allow people to filter by race or weight. We hope that people can create authentic, short term connections with people in ways that do not uphold harmful systems.

Carabinr users specify the “base” they’re comfortable with upon creating their account. Following the pop culture trope, first, second, third, and fourth bases all represent different levels of intimacy. These are, of course, not binding — what consenting adults decide they do and do not want to do is between them and only them. Still, bases break the awkward taboo surrounding conversations of intimacy and sexual boundaries, allowing Carabinr users to be more honest and find what they’re looking for more easily and more often.

Our Story and Philosophy

Created by a team of predominantly queer non-men, Carabinr’s design process centers the WLW experience, rather than trying to copy hook up apps centering men. Carabinr’s leadership team is made up of people who would use the app; they’re invested in its success as they understand first and foremost the need it fulfills.

Carabinr has a commitment to destigmatizing sex between non-men and encouraging sex positivity. We are dedicated to creating a safe, transparent space for hookups to address the as-yet unmet needs of queer non-men.
