Don’t you miss being a Creative?
Rediscovering the lost art of purposeful play
I remember growing up, making Origami paper planes, boats, and most importantly guns to shoot down imaginary enemies (Boss) 👹😡 me the warrior (actor) 🤺🙃.
My crew and I would go head-to-head with other crews, shooting rubber bullets at each other. We played soccer until it was too dark to see, returning home sore, tired, and sometimes with bruises or bleeding elbows, but the joy of being a part of an imaginative adventure is none to no other.
But today, things are different. Everything seems to lack color because of the lack of variety. Brands and startups gravitate toward industrial design thinking patterns and systems. It’s easy to see why; why reinvent the wheel when it works? Yes, but there are lots of wheels in the world. It would be nice to know which is which. One way to do that is to tell relatable stories by developing meaningful, memorable interactions between people and the products or services they use daily.
I think it’s time creatives start thinking outside the borders of commercial-oriented solutions, and start looking at other places where their curiosity is gravitated towards, this is one way new innovative ideas are created.
Creatives should be able to design their way to awesomeness
We all had childhood dreams of being the most awesome thing we could be, we love the idea of being an astronaut, a soldier, a pilot, or a fire-fighter we love the drive of adventures and the willingness to try out things regardless of safety we were daredevils, but today it seems like all that passion and desire are irrelevant as the world don’t need dreamers but efficient workers to keep the world going.
But creatives can be both dreamers and workers, we don’t have to forgo our childhood dreams for the sake of work or any societal obligations for that matter, creatives have the advantage of investigating fundamental problems in their field of interests, uncovering the root causes of these problems through creative thinking strategies and analysis thereby drawing out workable solutions to these defined problems.
How do we design our way to awesomeness?
First things first, what are your interests, what are your inclinations and tendencies?
A good place to find the answer to these questions is to time-travel back to when you were a child recalling all your delulus and wishful dreams of being that you are supposed to be today as a grown-up.
by following these three steps you can design your way to awesomeness:
- Be Delusional
Creatives are dreamers, it’s pretty clear by now that all of reality starts from the mind, this is pure science this also implies that all kinds of ideas or creations first existed in the minds of their creators before manifestating in reality. - Don’t be Delusional
As creatives, we often have the habit of staying in wonderland a place of infinite possibilities and delusions without taking responsibility for actualizing these dreams by investing in the tools and materials that can bring them to fruition. - Maintain Creative Equilibrium
This is the final step, creative equilibrium is simply an art of finding the balance between delusive ideas and realistic execution of these ideas something I call creative bipolarism which is the act of switching between being delusional like 10-year-olds and being rational like the crew that landed the first spacecraft on the moon.
Conclusion
Creativity is an art form of purposeful play that yields results in our various fields of interest, being in a state of relaxation and play increases our chances of coming up with noble ideas in our various fields of interest. as we navigate the world be it virtually or physically we should continually stay open-minded and not box our creativity into familiar territories, we are creatives if we don’t play god who will? also least I forget (AIs 🤖 got nothing on us 🙃)
