Tour of Antarctica

Today, I kayaked through the icy waters of Antarctica, climbed the ice ledge, and watched beautiful animals. The experience was immersive with real nature sounds, such as wind, making me feel a chill of the cold air while sitting in my kitchen. This was one of my first experiences in VR exploring places around the world.

I picked VR because it is an innovative disruptor that can transform people’s creative thinking. This is one of the best creative spaces I have recently visited and there is so much more to explore. VR also offers digital space for artwork. Anyone can create 3D art in VR, build villages with friends, or roam around different spaces or countries. This type of emerging art can benefit by allowing artists to explore themselves more deeply and by allowing everyone else, including kids, to improve the creative thinking process. However, it is not without its flows. It can be used to build art/technology that is addictive. It can be built in a way to manipulate others therefore phycological awareness is crucial. Some strict guidelines and regulations will have to be implemented around this new space to make it safe.

By definition, VR is the use of computer technology to create a simulated environment. The technology has a specific focus to immerse a user into a real-life experience in 3D. The 3D experience introduces a new sense of space, an extension of some sort. It allows an artist to go beyond traditional art to showcase the creative mind. In this space, an artist’s mind is explored through imagination with a new focus on perception, immersive spaces, feelings through sound, and visual effects to give the viewer a new experience.

I think it connects to what we are learning in class in the way we describe design thinking. It is a modern and complicated intersection of disciplines bridging art, technology, virtual space, animation, audio production, biology, future ecosystems, branding, and many others. It is not only an innovative product but a tool to create new services and ideas.
