New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) was established in 1929 and is located in midtown of Manhattan. MoMA totally has six floors; each floor has their own classification on display. MoMA contains various artistic creations, such as painting, sculpture, architecture, works on paper, photography and film and so on. MoMA was completed the renovation and expansion by the cooperation of Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Gensler in October 2021.

Because of this renovation and expansion, I precisely to closely link the three aspects of space, vision and art. The area after renovation increased by 30%. So, when you enter the door, you will find that the exhibition hall is large and bright. Looking up from the first floor, you will find many small glass windows on the wall. You can see some people looking out from the window. People looking at people, people looking at art, people looking at space, and people also become an art. I think MoMA has this artistic conception. The whole building has a large sense of space, controlled lighting and each floor does not have too much decoration except for the exhibits. These contribute to isolate and enhance the exhibition of artworks. In other words, it allows people to focus on the display objects instead of the building itself. The combination of visual sense and sense of space will be easier for people to integrate into the art. I think modernism means that traditional museums with exhibitions as the center have changed to “human-centered”. The form shifts from exhibits to people, and more attention is paid to the relationship between content and people, as well as the influence which museum provide to society and public. The artwork that impressed me the most is immersive experience on the second floor. The projection, music, lighting and the entire space are perfectly coordinated, and many people stand in that space and feel it. I think how to make the projection perfectly interact with the audience with different ages, all nationalities, collective or single in common space and how the three-dimensional space can be seamlessly connected to form a perfect closed loop is difficult, but MoMA achieve this really well. Also, there is a design store have many well-designed boutiques; this point highlights the human-centered concept as well.

MoMA reframing the form of traditional museum which connect to our course deeply, it not only reflects the value of the collection, but also establishes interaction and resonance with visitors to become more meaningful.
