She never fails to dress to impress, she always stands out, and she doesn’t cower away from risks. Since Rihanna’s debut in 2005, the world has witnessed her incredible fashion transformation. On more than one occasion, she has set new fashion trends from bold sunglasses to colorful fur coats. It is always exciting to see how she can style seemingly “ugly” pieces of clothing together to create a spectacular outfit. In her own words, Rihanna has stated that “You will never be stylish if you don’t take risks,” and I think that is the essence of creativity (Vogue, 2017). Creativity, in my opinion, is introducing new concepts that go against the grain.

There is no question that Rihanna is innately creative like most performing artists. However, it is important to keep in mind that celebrities have status, money, and resources to take more creative liberty in their daily lives. Their creativity made them famous, and then these three main things amplified their creativity. For “normal” people like myself, we may have to continue to practice our creativity in more subtle ways. For example, the internet allows us to host our creativity in tailored digital spaces where we can openly connect, borrow, and share ideas.

Lastly, what makes me drawn to Rihanna’s fashion is her confidence to be unapologetically herself. The most creative people are those who stand by their ideas. Rihanna has not only inspired me to represent myself more through fashion, but also to defend my unique perspective at work, school, and in my daily life.
