Day 31: Dreaming and Doing
I don’t have a single picture from yesterday. Not a one. I’d say we had the most uneventful day we’ve had since our move, mostly filled with work, and there wasn’t much cause for photographs.
In between our daily visit to Dream and my marathon work day I spent my free time dreaming about the Awesome Flat. We’ve been in temporary housing since the 1st of June, said farewell to sweet Mitzie on the 18th of August, and in the Hobbit House since the 21st of August. That’s a lot of time being unsettled and packed. Knowing yesterday that there were only 2 sleeps until we could feel like we lived somewhere was deeply compelling.
Most apartments here in España come at least semi-furnished. It’s a fascinating aspect of the culture and I love the lack of attachment it signifies. The Awesome Flat is fully furnished, so we can pretty much bring our suitcases in and start living, but that doesn’t preclude some online Ikea shopping (I’ve already had an in-person Ikea adventure, so I’m looking forward to their delivery option this time).
Coming up with a list of things we want to have of our own in the apartment was an exercise of imagining life there. We’ll have a terrace so what will it be like to create a comfortable space out there? Will I teach from there, or will it be a zoom-meeting annex? How long will it take us to rebuild our sourdough culture so we can have our first loaf of home-baked bread since May, 2022? What will we need to hang laundry to dry? Where will I paint? What will my first run along the Mediterranean Sea feel like? How soon can we get back to bidet life? What will Mitzie think of the couch?
We came back together at the end of the day for dinner on the Hobbit House couch, and spent the remainder of our evening sharing ideas about the Awesome Flat.
Zero regrets. Is it Thursday yet?
