Desires vs Reality

While clad in his work uniform, the man in the photo is haunted by his dreams of being a film director as seen through the metonymies for filmmaking spilling out from his opened chest: the roll of film, the Oscar trophy and various film equipment.

The use of paradigm, through the drawing being overlapped on the man, suggests the idea of what could have been had he chased after his dreams. However, the papery texture of his dreams suggests the fragility of it and how such dreams do not belong to the reality that he lives in.

The shredded paper background suggests the idea of a constructed reality being projected in his head. The use of the red shredded paper as an iconic sign to show the red carpet reinforces his ambition of being a director. However, even though the colour red represents strong feelings of passion and desires, it is ultimately undermined by the torn and constructed look of the paper, which suggests it is only a dream. This image ultimately represents a strong desire for a dream that has long passed its expiration date.
