Let’s dig into The Vault, located in a building that served as as one of the first homes of the Ghiradelli chocolate factory and has been reborn as a hub for innovators.

What’s around your space?

Jackson Square is the oldest part of SF and the only section of the city that survived the fire after the 1906 earthquake. We were the first tech-related company here and we chose Jackson Square because it is surrounded by FiDi, Chinatown, North Beach and the Embarcadero. There are hundreds of restaurants, bars, cafes, clubs, stores, boutiques and parks within a few hundred feet of our front door.

The Vault is like a combination of a great accelerator, Cheers and Jerry’s apartment.

What does collaboration look like at The Vault?

Soon after The Vault opened, a member stopped me one day to tell me a “Vault story.”

The day before he’d been on the phone talking with someone about a coding problem and after he hung up, another member walked up, mentioned that he’d overheard the conversation and thought he could help. He pulled up a chair and, for the next 4 hours, helped write code and then plug the new code into his existing code base.

That, said the Vault storyteller, saved him at least a week of work. We have hundreds of Vault stories like that.
