Recently we decided to introduce a brand new incentivization program for Desmos validators named Desmos Validating Summer. In this post we’re going to explore how it is different from the Desmos Primer Program as well as why we decided to start this brand new experience.

Desmos Primer Program 🧪

Since we started coding our chain back in December, we wanted to make sure we have a continuously growing community of validators, developers and users around our testnets. That’s exactly why we introduced the Desmos Primer Program. With it, we wanted to achieve the following objectives.

  • Test new features 🔍
Users participating in the Primer challengers could help us test the new features to make sure any possible bug was squashed right away.
  • Distribute Desmos Tokens to the community 💸
We want to make sure that our tokens (DSM) are distributed to the entire community instead of concentrated in the hands of large investors. That’s why any participant in the Primer program received the promise of future tokens as a reward for his/her effort.
  • Attract new developers 🧑‍💻
Since new features were rolled out periodically, we thought that this might have helped in attracting new dApps developers wanting to build a better and larger ecosystem of applications around the Desmos protocol.

The Primer program ran for 5 months, from February to July, starting from Phase 1 till Phase 5. Each phase consisted of a set of challenges for the users, and one specific challenge for validators.

Although this program helped us in discovering bugs and enlarging our community, we decided that from now on we will create separate programs for users and validators.

Desmos Validating Summer 🏖️

Desmos Validating Summer is our new incentivised program only for validators.

Unlike the the Primer program, it doesn’t consist of many challenges. Instead, validators will only have to care about one single thing: running a validator node as long as possible. 🖥️

The Validating Summer program has started on August 16, 2020 and will last until September 16, 2020. During this period, we will count all the blocks that each validator signs and all the validators that have validated 80% or more blocks will receive up to 6,000 DSM as a reward.

If you want to jump in or know more about the Validating Summer Program, join our Discord server and come chat with our team! We are glad to answer all of your questions!

Have a nice validating summer! 😎
