Snapchat is a media-messaging app which is known for its AR geofilters, face detection technology, and other 3D- rendered elements. Its face detection technology is used for fun filters that can alter your face, I found the filters to be really accurate when it comes to tracking your motion and detecting different peoples facial features. The audience for snapchat is mainly teenagers because the filters and stickers feel very youthful, but I have seen older adults and young children using it as well. The app uses gps to track your location, and image processing technology, these are important for users to be able to use Snapchat’s filters. The strengths of the app are its wide variety of filters, stickers, and animations because it makes it easy for anyone to personalize their pictures, weaknesses are the interface is sometimes hard to navigate if you’re not used to it (unlike other apps like instagram that are more user friendly).

SLAM

Snapchat uses tracking technology mainly for their facial recognition filters. The filters that I have used that place 3D objects in the real world aren’t that advanced and bounce around a lot. When it comes to taking pictures there isn’t really a reason why the tracking tech needs to be 100% accurate (since you’re only capturing a moment), but in the future I see the tracking improving a lot for the video feature.
