VR/AR design best practices

One thing that I think could be added as a best practice is making the environment more realistic to keep the user engaged. For example, the lighting and the textures of the environment should be a reflection of the real world. This keeps the user’s depth perception intact and helps with getting the user situated in their new environment. When everything looks fake, it takes away from the experience and feels more like a video game. In addition to getting oriented in the VR space, I think the user needs to get oriented to the space in real life, especially if it’s room-scale VR. Walking around the room first would make people more comfortable and feel less awkward in knowing their surrounding and how much space is around.
