Project Goal

  • Working as a class of 25 students, we set out to create an Augmented Reality (AR)experience for prospective Eastern Washington University students to learn more about our university and our Design Program.
  • Our main goal as a group was to share the stories of real EWU students. We wanted people to hear directly from students why EWU is a great option for college and why students choose Design as a major. We wanted to focus on creating short video clips of our own stories to present as video overlays as well as 6 AR Zapcode experiences; 4 of these were our student stories, 1 the informative experience, and finally the EWU banner with a flying 3D animated bird.

Team responsibilities

Within our team of 4, we divided the project responsibilities evenly. We had a designated videographer who handled taking and editing the video footage. We had a visual designer for the physical visuals that were to be mounted to the wall. We had a digital banner designer, leading the design of the required EWU banner. And a secondary digital designer and content creator for the informative AR Zapcode experience.

Visuals
We wanted to incorporate a halftone aesthetic into the physical visual on our section of the wall.

Installation Mock-up

Numbers to the mock-up detailing which group would have to take care of which main circle, 1–4 being on the main wall and 5–6 on the left side of the main wall.

Recording

As a group we each recorded short 30–40 second videos on the green screen explaining why we came to Eastern, what major we were and even how some of us ended up at Eastern.

Project thoughts

  • The one thing we could all agree 100% on was the fact that this was by far the best group projects we have been a part of. It was invaluable to be able to work with like-minded designers and create this large scale installment. Although there were many voices and ideas between our group and our class none of us ever felt outspoken. We were all able to pitch in ideas and create this amazing design for the building at Eastern Washington University.
