Everglades City, Florida (Did you see that gator)

But what most people forget is that the state of Florida is a big state with many towns and cities. One of the unique cities is located in one of the most southern counties in the state.

Everglades City, Florida is part of the Naples-Marco Island Metropolitan Statistical Area. Located on the Gulf of Mexico, Everglades City offers the tourist a small town feel while being a coastal town.

For many years Native Americans called, what is now Everglades City home. Once the Spaniards settled into the area the natives who pushed out and the city began to grow. In 1821, Florida and Everglades City became part of the United States. After the Civil War was when Americans began to settle into the area.

Today, Everglades City is home to only 402 people. Tourism is the main source of income for the city. Many travels to the city to enjoy an island getaway. During their vacation tourist can enjoy canoeing through the mangrove trees and fishing through the Everglades. This vacation can be everyone’s dream of a quiet relaxing getaway or backwoods dream.

Two of the best parts of Everglades City is the people and the food. Here tourist can enjoy becoming one with the city and the people. They can eat unique coastal foods. Many of these come from the Everglades such as gators and seafood. Although it sounds unappetizing to some, emerging in the culture of the city is one of the many benefits to visiting Everglade City.
