Some destinations are not meant to spend a week of exploring. Like Mount Rushmore, our next destination is a great stop during a road trip. But I wouldn’t recommend staying for a week-long vacation.

Lima, Ohio is a city in the northwest region of the state. Lima is right off of Interstate 75 and is only an hour away from several major cities including Toledo, Ohio, Dayton, Ohio and Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The city of Lima is known for two things. The first is the locomotive industry. During the 20th century, Lima was linked to several big cities because of the rails. People in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Fort Wayne and Chicago would be able to hop on a train and be in Lima in a matter of hours. Famous mobsters, such as Al Capone, would often travel to Lima to get away from the city.

Lima is also home to the famous Kewpee hamburger. Their slogan “Hamburger pickle on top makes my heart go flip pity flop,” is known to every resident within the Lima community. The square hamburger patties and chocolate frosty’s give a unique twist on a classic.

Lima, Ohio is also home two sports teams, the Lima Warriors, and Lima Locos. They are not major league teams, but residents of Lima enjoy going to cheer on the locals as they enjoy a good game.

Lima recently became a well-known city around the United States in 2015. The musical comedy-drama television series Glee declared Lima as the home of McKinley High School. However, the hit series was not filmed in Lima.

Lima is a great place to explore and grab a quick bite to eat before you move onto your next destination. Take a chance on Lima and make sure you grab a frosty before you leave.
