When most people think of castles they often think of the ones in Europe. Germany, England and France all contain some of the most beautiful castles in the world. However, there is one city in the United States that has two castles that can rival some of Europes greatest.

Piatt Castles are two castles can be found in West Liberty, Ohio. The castles, Mac-O-Chee and Mac-A-Cheek castles, were built by the Piatt brothers, Donn and Abram S, in the 1800s. The Piatt brothers were of French descent and built themselves each a gothic style home to live out their days.

Public tours of the castles began in 1912, four years after the death of Abram S Piatt. Eventually, both castles got into the tourism business and now are open and run by the Piatt family year round. In 1982, the castles were put on the National Register of Historic Places.

When you are taking your road trip through the state of Ohio be sure to stop and marvel at the beautiful Piatt Castles. During your tours be sure to admire the beautiful treasures that the Piatt family obtained during their lives. Who knows what treasures you will find.
