Vacations are a time for people to get away and relax with their friends and family while forgetting their daily struggles. Thinking of the furry ones you left behind often can put a damper on the vacation. One island destination allows you to bring your fuzzy companions with you on your adventure.

St. George Island, Florida is a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico. The Island is 28 miles long and 1 mile wide. The island is also divided into three regions; The Dr. Julian G. St. George Island State Park, a state park and a private community.

St. George Island is known for its laid back and quiet nature. Those who call the island home rent out their homes during the Spring and Summer months. Many tourists travel to the island for a vacation getaway for the whole family.

One of the unique features of St. George Island is the lighthouse that is housed along the beach. The Cape St. George Light originally stood on St. George at the Apalachicola Bay for 153 years. The lighthouse was used to guide ships into the pass to pick up the cotton at the port. The lighthouse fell into the Gulf of Mexico in 2005 and was rebuilt in 2008 with some of the original pieces.

St. George Island, Florida is a great place for families to come and enjoy the peace and quiet that the old south has to offer. With a destination that allows pets on the beach, the entire family can enjoy the sun and sand.
