A trip to Florida would not be complete without a trip to the ocean. However, there are several beautiful that are only a short drive to the ocean. If you are looking to experience the old south and still spend time on the beach look no further because this destination is the perfect vacation spot for you.

Tallahassee is the capital of the state of Florida. With just less than 200,000 people, Tallahassee is the largest city in the Florida Panhandle. The student population in Tallahassee makes up 70,000 of the population.

The Spanish were the first empire to have settled in the Apalachee territory, a territory that became later became known as Tallahassee. It wasn’t until 1818 that Florida became part of the United States. Since then the capital has grown. By the 19th century, Florida State University was established and Tallahassee became a college town.

Tallahassee’s location makes it an ideal vacation destination. Tallahassee is just an hour drive to St. George Island, Florida. A short distance from Tallahassee is the Apalachicola National Forest. A popular destination spot, the national forest has an abundance of freshwater streams, rivers, lakes and natural springs.

Tallahassee is a vacation destination that defines the old meets the new. If you are looking for a place to explore a city and nature, Tallahassee is the place for you.
