Often known as the Pearl of Africa, this East African gem lies along the Equator. From the Karimajongs in the North to the Bahima with long-horned cattle in the South, Uganda has a variety of unique Culture practices that guarantee lifetime memories and mouthwatering local cuisines. If you want to move away from the winter blues, Uganda is a tropical destination, blessed with splendid rain forests, beautiful weather, the most friendly people ever known and breathtaking scenery you will ever see. Not forgetting the unique exotic wildlife. Welcome to Uganda.
Places to Visit while in Uganda
1. Source of the Nile
River Nile, 4,160 miles, is the longest in the world with its Source in Jinja, a district in Eastern Uganda. Be sure to enjoy fascinating water rafting, Bungee jumping, Quad biking and reptile village visits right at its source. You will be fascinated by the beautiful Bujagali falls and the friendliness of the Basoga people while enjoying this site in Uganda.
2. Ssese Islands
An archipelago of up to 84 Islands, completely surrounded by Lake Victoria, the largest Lake in East Africa. Ssese Islands are blessed with a number of beautiful sandy beaches. The delicious Tilapia and Nile perch delicacy make Ssese Islands a gem among the tourist’s destinations in Uganda. A more than perfect scenery and dawned by a beautiful sunset, Ssese Islands is a dream of every photographer and bird enthusiast, Despite a majority of the infrastructure on the Island being rudimentary, Ssese Islands remains a tourists’ favorite. Several new affordable Hotels are being constructed and these will accommodate the increasing number of tourists to the islands.
3. National game parks
National parks in Uganda make up the bigger proportion of tourism sites. From exotic wildlife (Elephants, giraffes, lions, pygmy antelope, chimpanzees, monkeys, etc) to the unique fauna, amazing waterfalls, springs and crater lakes, come witness the splendid beauty in these game parks. I have feature some of the most fascinating ones in the list that follows;
Queen Elizabeth National Park
Found in western Uganda, Queen Elizabeth National Park was established in 1954. It’s well known for its exotic wildlife being home to a number of hippos, elephants, chimpanzees lions, Leopards, and numerous species of mammals.The park also houses about 400 species of birds that can be enjoyed by bird-watchers. Come see the tree-climbing lion, volcanic cones, and deep craters. A telecenter, park lodges, games, scenic drives and boat launches are some of the services available.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

A UNESCO World Heritage Site that forms part of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park offers one of the richest ecosystems in Africa. This park is dubbed one of Uganda’s most fascinating destinations for visitors. Arrive with cameras and observe over 180 unique species of trees, 27 species of frogs, 120 species of mammals, 348 species of birds, geckos and chameleons, 220 species of butterflies, and other species in their natural habitat. Not forgetting the opportunity to see mountain gorillas and elephants very closely.
Kibale National Park
Home to Uganda’s most splendid tropical forests, Kibale National Park is a habitat for chimpanzees and other wildlife, making it worth a great safari tour. Witness first hand the density and diversity of primates, including endangered species in their natural habitat. A simple bus ride from Kampala will get you to the park throughout the week.
Kidepo Valley National Park

Located on the border of Uganda and Southern Sudan, it’s very isolated but worth the long trek through the wild frontier region of Karamoja so that you witness such splendid beauty. The park is home to 77 species of mammals and more than 475 species of birds.The park is ideal for game viewing made possible by vehicles that travel on dirt roads in the park during any weather condition.
