Three stories about streamers that will surprise you

People always love to hear stories about different public figures, don’t they? This is especially true for streamers, as they are constantly in the public spotlight (even more than some Hollywood stars). Rumors are spreading very fast, and a newbie can turn into a super popular streamer in no time. It’s enough for someone to accidentally find themselves in a funny (or maybe not so) situation.

We are destream. And today we’re going to tell you 3 fascinating stories about streamers. Some of these stories helped the heroes to become much more popular, and some of them not. This is just a compilation of 3 gripping narratives that will help you to have some fun and (maybe) feel yourself a little bit closer to streaming culture.

Story I

Hey! Wake up, buddy. You’re rich

Our first hero’s name is Matthew “Mizkif” Rinaudo. He received more than $5500 during one single stream. His plan was perfect. He was sleeping… wait, what??

Yeah, that’s not a joke, and there is no trick in this story. The streamer was sleeping, and his viewers were tipping him. Some of them were trying to wake him up, some just to have fun. It sounds like a fantasy, but it is what it is: Mizkif has combined making good money with getting rid of the main problem of streamers — lack of sleep (at least for one stream).

The story began the same way all the stories about great heroes start — with a conflict with parents. More precisely, not from the conflict, but from the fact that Matthew jokingly told on the stream that his mother never considered his profession to be serious.

“She thinks I’m lounging now. Wait until she realizes that I fell asleep and still earn money,” — said the blogger.

On March 3, 2020, after the first 3 hours of stream, Matthew turned on media share donations and went to bed. He was sleeping for almost 6 hours, and his viewers were trying to wake him up using different media-sounds (like “And his name is John Cena!!!” popular media-sound) via tips.

The venturesome audience didn’t stop until the very end. Donations rained one after the other. After Mizkif woke up, he discovered that he had earned almost $5500. His plan was unrealistically easy and unserious, but it worked!

“Most streams are very draining. This one is the other way around. It went very easy. It’s a good break in my routine because I usually play games all day.” — said Matthew after the stream.

Frankly speaking, in some way, we agree with Matthew’s mother’s opinion.

Story II

Your homeland is a ban!

On August 21, 2019, a Twitch streamer Robert “OGROBx” was banned by the platform for mentioning his homeland in the description of the emoji.

As you’ve already guessed, this story isn’t funny at all, but it is still impressive.

Rob’s channel has about 6,000 followers. During his broadcasts, the streamer discusses various funny videos and photos as well as weird social trends from the Internet with the audience. Robert is Nigerian, and (no matter how strange it may sound) it served as an indirect cause for him to be banned on Twitch in August 2019.

The thing is that Twitch policies prohibit emotes that promote hate, sexism, racial discrimination, and so on. Rob’s emoji was named “ogrobNig” (because he is Nigerian). I’m sure you’ve already understood which part of its name is exactly what the administrators didn’t like. That’s right! The last three letters.

After being banned, the streamer was very angry at Twitch. Rob rightly considered banning him to be completely unfair.

It’s also worth noting that this is not the first time emojis have become a bone of contention between Twitch users and moderators. During the operation of the platform, some images acquired a double meaning and are used whenever viewers hear words that resemble racial insults or other unpleasant expressions (for example, the “n-word”).

Beside the angry tweet, OGROBx wrote a complaint to Twitch tech-support. Here is what the platform moderators answered:

The streamer, of course, didn’t like such a “condescending” answer. Robert’s opinion was as follows:

“I can’t believe the letter Twitch just sent me. If they want to use this strike to break partnerships, then I’ll act tough.”

After such a controversial accident, Rob has left Twitch.

Story III

Officer, you’ve arrested the wrong guy. Moreover, you’ve captured him BEFORE the crime was committed.

This is a very old story. It comes from October 2015. But, before we start, a question for those who’ve ever been arrested: What did you say to the police officer, before he/she took you away in handcuffs? Mr. Big (the main character of our next story) said: “Alienware is for noobs!”

Besides, after being arrested, Twitch streamer “Mr_13ig” was robbed. Yes, you’ve read it right — I said after.

Well, let’s not fall into the argument about why Alienware is for noobs, and let’s begin our story.

In October 2015, Mr. Big was playing a zombie-survival game NewZ, when a police officer came into his house. The officer said that there was a noise complaint and he came to find out what’s going on.

After the streamer began to refuse to give his name, referring to the fact that the officer wasn’t fulfilling his duties correctly (technically, he was within his rights), the policeman’s patience ran out. As a result, the streamer was arrested and taken out of the house.

However, this is just the beginning of our story.

After the policeman and Mr. Big went out, the streamer’s neighbour sneaked into the house and took his Nike Air Jordans, wallet, and some other items.

The thief acted cleverly, but he made one little mistake that ruined everything. The streamer’s webcam was on (of course, it was, why else I would tell you this story). Mr. Big’s viewers immediately called the Police, and the loser thief was soon arrested. Just imagine how shocked he was — what a great show!
