Dether is now a member of the Blockchain for Social Impact Coalition

We are excited to announce that Dether is now a member of the Blockchain for Social Impact Coalition (BSIC), an initiative of ConsenSys.

What is the Blockchain for Social Impact Coalition?

BSIC is an initiative of ConsenSys. BSIC incubates, develops and implements confederated blockchain products and solutions that can address social and environmental challenges across the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The coalition, composed of over 40 organizations ranging from enterprise to social impact, and a significant number of social entrepreneurs around the world in Geneva, Glasgow, London, New York, San Francisco and DC, aims to develop and implement blockchain solutions that move towards solving social and environmental problems and demonstrate the promise of blockchain technology in humanitarian organizations.

The coalition hosts numerous community gathering events per year, which include two conferences, one in the US and one in an international city, as well as hackathon that precedes each conference. Beyond that, BSIC hosts meet-ups in many metropolitan hubs including New York, San Francisco, London, Washington DC, Denver, Philadelphia, Paris, Toronto, Amsterdam, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Manila, Mexico City, Oslo, Sao Paolo and Belgrade.

What it means for Dether

Since the inception of our project, we’ve wanted to find a way to make Ethereum technology accessible to anyone. The first case studies we looked at in our whitepaper sought to address populations in high-need communities.

Now, we are thrilled to be a member alongside organizations like Blockchain for Microsoft, Change, and WWF, who have a major impact across the globe.

Dether will be creating bridges between NGOs, government agencies, impact investors, philanthropists, and technologists by enabling these actors to benefit from Dether’s protocol in the following sectors:

• Financial Inclusion
• Supply Chain
• Identity and Vulnerable Populations
• Energy and Environment

We are living in a turning point in history when Ethereum has the power to change the societies we live in, and therefore, the world. Despite its potential, its biggest obstacle is still mass adoption. By mass adoption, we mean that anyone in the world should be able to interact with its network and have the ability to build or participate in trustless organizations without a middleman or fiat currency barriers.

We believe that this is a major step towards our goal of Ethereum mass adoption.
