Token Spotlight: MANA from Decentraland
This is the latest in a series of “Token Spotlights” that will feature new tokens listed in the Dether app. Discover what they are, and why they’re important.
You can now fund your Dether wallet with MANA and exchange it for ETH.
Decentraland is a virtual reality platform powered by the Ethereum blockchain, allowing anyone to purchase “land” and create their own digital, virtual experiences. Decentraland is ruled by open standards, giving users full control over the content of the land they own and allowing them to keep all the proceeds from the value they generate for other users.
The Decentraland WebVR platform is being built on A-Frame. Users will be able to use tools like SketchUp, Blender, and Maya to create 3D models that they can then import into Decentraland. You can start creating your virtual content here.
Decentraland will be accessible from a mobile device, desktop browser, and through a VR headset.
Using the MANA token
LAND —the finite, traversable, 3D virtual space within Decentraland — is a non-fungible, transferrable, scarce digital asset stored in an Ethereum smart contract that can be acquired by spending MANA, the ecosystem’s ERC20 token. Land is divided into parcels that are identified by cartesian coordinates (x,y).
MANA can also be used to make in-world purchases of digital goods and services within the Decentraland ecosystem.
