I Am Free — My Life One Year After I Left My Abusive Fiancé

I am free:

To go on road trips

To spend time with my beloved girlfriends

To make new friends — both female AND male

To eat ice cream right out of the carton, without judgement

To listen to whatever music I’d like how ever loudly I’d like it

To hang out by myself sometimes

To piddle around and tweeze my eyebrows and take forever to get ready for bed

To paint

To journal

To feel comfortable in my own home

To decorate said home with whatever beautiful, neutral-toned, minimalistic decor that I want without having him repetitively bitch and complain about it

To be sad sometimes, instead of constantly having to entertain him and give him every bit of my attention

To work on the weekends, if needed

To stay up as late as I want

To travel by myself

From walking on eggshells

From apologizing for stuff that’s not my fault

From the fear that I will do something to upset him or set him off

To smile

To laugh

To be myself

To love myself again

I’m free to do all of these things. Being with him was like being in a prison. And now, I am free. I’m beyond grateful that I had the strength and courage to break out.

Be well, friends. And if you’re in a prison, get the F out. 😉
