As a software engineer you are routinely entrusted with your company’s (or client’s) crown jewels. Intellectual property worth millions, if not billions of dollars. The last thing you need is doubt and lack of confidence…

J. A. Cirez does not have impostor syndrome

There is a character on the TV show Billions named Dr. Wendy Rhodes, played by actress Maggie Siff. Her job as human resources manager, in-house performance coach, and all-around spirit guide for Axe Capital — most days — boils down to keeping a room full of emotionally stunted men child (and a few women child) at the top of their game.

At some point during a session with one of Axe Capital traders — usually after half-listening to their woe-is-me bullshit-du-jour — she reminds them why they are part of the chosen few at Axe Capital. Why they are insanely well paid and outrageously pampered. They are there because they are blood-thirsty Vikings, Huns, and Mongolian horde rolled into one.

They are murderous savages pillaging, fucking and burning down everything in their paths while hauling 100LBS of loot on their backs!

With their egos stroked, their self-doubts assuaged and their confidence momentarily restored, she sends them back out to the trading floor to make some fucking money.
