“Don’t be afraid to ask questions; everyone starts somewhere, and the community is here to support you…” — Bridget Amana

The power of community is undeniable. It’s a crucible where dreams are forged, and individuals find the strength to soar.

We are thrilled to spotlight Bridget Amana, as our inspiring star for the month of July. Bridget is an example of how a supportive community can transform lives.

Bridget’s introduction to the DevCareer Africa community marked a turning point in her career. The supportive environment and access to resources provided the perfect launchpad for her aspirations.

Bridget’s journey from an administrative role to a frontend developer is a testament to the human spirit’s resilience. Her passion for learning and her dedication to uplifting others have made her a true inspiration.

Bridget not only embraced a new career path but also committed herself to giving back. Through volunteering and sharing her expertise, she has significantly impacted others, helping them navigate their career transitions and grow in tech. Her commitment to supporting and uplifting others highlights the decisive role of community.

We had the pleasure of hearing Bridget discuss her journey and the impact of the community. Here’s a glimpse of our conversation:

  • Please tell us a bit about yourself and your background.

My name is Bridget Amana, and I am a Frontend Developer and Virtual Assistant. I specialize in creating user-friendly websites and providing efficient administrative support. I enjoy bringing ideas to life through clean, responsive designs and streamlined workflows. Outside of work, I love volunteering.

  • How did you first discover the community, and what made you decide to stick around?

A friend introduced me to the DevCareer Africa community, and I decided to stay because of the supportive environment and valuable resources.

  • What are you currently working on or passionate about outside of the community?

I’m focusing on expanding my skills in frontend development and dedicating time to volunteering in tech education and digital literacy for the girl child.

  • What are your biggest dreams for the future, and how does the community support you in pursuing them?

My biggest dream is to become a leading expert in frontend development. The community has been crucial in supporting me, especially through the DCTPC 2 program, which provided essential training and resources.

  • What are some of your most significant achievements or milestones within and outside the community?

One of my major achievements is transitioning from an administrative role to a frontend developer, made possible with the support from DevCareer Africa.

  • Could you highlight a memorable moment or experience you’ve had in the community?

While I don’t have a single standout moment, every interaction with the community has been inspiring and supportive, contributing positively to my growth.

  • In your opinion, how has the community positively impacted its members?

The community offers scholarships that provide access to valuable training and education, which might otherwise be unattainable.

  • What would you like to see more of in the community in the future?

I’d love to see more mentorship opportunities, especially for those new to the tech field.

Is there a specific project or event you’ve been particularly proud of?

I’m particularly proud of the Learning Management System (LMS) I developed during a hackathon. It was rewarding to see our collaborative ideas come to life in such a short timeframe.

What advice would you give to someone new to the community who wants to get involved?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions; everyone starts somewhere, and the community is here to support you. Consider volunteering for projects as it’s a fantastic way to gain hands-on experience.

  • If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

I would love the ability to talk to animals. It would be amazing to understand their thoughts and feelings. It might sound silly, but it’s been my dream since childhood.

  • Is there anyone in the community you’d like to express gratitude or appreciation to?

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful and supportive people in the community, but I’d like to give a special shoutout to Victoria Aladesuyi, the community manager. I met Victoria at an event; she instantly made me feel welcome and at ease. I’m grateful to have connected with someone as wonderful as her.

  • Who or what inspires you the most, both within and outside of the community?

Oby Ezekwesili.

  • Is there anything else you’d like to share with the community?

I deeply appreciate the support and opportunities provided by the community. It’s where individuals can grow, learn, and thrive together. I encourage everyone to fully engage with the resources available and connect with one another.

Thank you, Bridget, for your unwavering dedication and the positive impact you make in our community. Your journey and generosity are truly inspiring!
