5 Cool Nigerian Chat bots That Will Make Your Life Easier
Technology is redefining how we live and operate; paving way for the innovation, the flow of which is limitless and unstoppable. The Nigerian software space is growing daily and interest in artificial intelligence and machine learning has given birth to interactive chat bots that make everyday activities a lot easier. Here are a few chat bots that were created in Nigeria, by Nigerians and for Nigerians;
Gigson
Gigson is a bot built by Devcenter. Its task is to collate jobs from a slack community — Square— and display the jobs in a repository . Gigson was created to solve two problems. First to increase the quality of job postings by providing a format and secondly, it makes applying for jobs easier by cutting out all the noise in Slack. You can view jobs submitted to Gigson here.
Eat Drink Bot
The Eat Drink Bot was built to help users find restaurants in Lagos based on budget and location. It collects the user’s name, finds out how many people are being budgeted for and the actual budget. It’s simple and easy to use, honestly. It was created because the co-founders of Eat Drink Lagos, Nosa and Folayemi, were unable to reply all the emails they got asking for recommendations on places to eat. They then decided to build a bot that was able to suggest restaurants based on the information the user provides. Check it out here
Kudi.ai
Kudi.ai is a financial bot that assists you by transferring funds, buying airtime and paying bills. It can also remind you about recurring bills before they are due. Behind the chat room is a structure that carries out financial transactions securely. One thing I found particularly cool though is how simple and straightforward the user interface is. I expected something complex and difficult, but it really isn’t. Did I mention that it seems pretty witty as well? No? Explore Kudi.
Lara
Lara is a transportation bot that gives you accurate estimations of how much it would cost to get from one place in Lagos to another. It gives directions on how to arrive at your destination by providing detailed, step-by-step directions on what to do and where to get buses. The bot is like the friend you contact when you find yourself lost in an unfamiliar area. Lara was designed to resemble Whatsapp’s User Interface, this increases the familiarity with the bot. Jumia Bot
Jumia’s e-commerce bot integrates with Facebook messenger and it asks users what they want and displays the best offers in several categories. You can book flights and hotels as well as order food in the Jumia universe. A cool feature of this bot is that once you specify your preferences, it saves the data and recalls it everytime you come back. You can check it out here.
You may be thinking that this is a grand scheme by the robots to take over the world and you may be right. While artificial intelligence research is fascinating, full of potential, and changing our world, we’ll like to remind you that The Terminator remains fiction. Bots are just getting started so excuse them if they don’t get some of your queries right. They evolve and become better as we use them.
