Developer Circle Nairobi was launched on the 31st of March 2017 and is part of the wider family of the Facebook Developer Circles Program.

We joined other communities across the globe including Lagos, Cairo, Dakar, Tunis and Casablanca, these being the communities in Africa currently, as well as Sao Paulo, Toronto, Mumbai, just to mention a few across the rest of the globe.

Developer Circles was officially launched by Facebook at the recent F8 Conference. Developer Circles is a community-driven program that’s free to join and open to any developer. Each Developer Circle is led by members of the local community who act as leads for the circle, organising events offline and managing a local online Facebook community.

Developer Circles are forums to share knowledge, collaborate, build new ideas, and learn about the latest technologies from Facebook and other industry leaders. There are no limitations to joining this community of developers. An aspiring member can be a student learning how to code, a developer looking to turn an idea into a reality, or an experienced coder searching for the latest Facebook product and open source tool updates.

Developer Circles empowers a diverse range of technical talent to improve their skills and offers them accessibility to the information they need. By fostering stronger communities and creating more technical awareness, our goal is to empower developers, similar to existing Facebook programs like FbStart , which for the past several years has focused on helping early-stage startups succeed.

The Nairobi Developer Circle currently has 613 members and will be holding its second meet-up on May 5th at the iHub from 6:30 PM to 8 PM. We will have a series of talks, both technical and informative and lots of networking. One of the goals of Nairobi Developer Circles is to make Nairobi the Bot City of Africa. We look forward to growing the developer community by helping them leverage on the various technologies available on Facebook’s platforms.

Anyone interested in joining the community can freely do so, on our Facebook group and on our Github page.
