Totally Sold Out! DevC Nairobi #6
Git and Munch!
There’s so much excitement writing this 🤸🏻♀️ ok…zen 😅 *
We merged and munched! That’s what our 6th meet up was all about on the 9th of October 2017. We had the privilege to host the Facebook team that runs Developer Circles, alongside 25 Developer Circle Leads from across Africa!
It was a full house, and we had a lot of you standing because we were lacking in space, but iHub did a great job in making sure we were comfortable, and that’s a good problem to have :)
There was so much excitement around, because earlier on before our DevC meet-up, Facebook held a Kenyan Women in Tech meeting! 🙌 👏
This event was designed to engage with influential Kenyan women working in Nairobi's technology ecosystem and to share Facebook's mission on Diversity.
Nunu Ntshingila, Regional Director, Facebook Africa, was keen to note that diversity is the key to unlocking creative thinking and prosperity for all, and that having events such as this, is about changing the picture of women being under-represented in technology and having the diversity felt. There was a panel discussion of influential women in the Kenyan tech space, discussing the Kenyan tech-ecosystem, and giving advice to women seeking to advance in their Tech career.
A special shout-out to our very own Kenyan Christine Abernathy, who is the Developer Advocate on OpenSource Projects at Facebook!
Now that we have a little brief about the events of the day, let’s dive right into how our meet and much went like. We had Andrew Kamau speak on FBStart . FbStart is a global program designed to help startups build and grow their business. You too can get started with FBStart, as the name suggests, and you will get everything you need to grow your business, if not all. Andrew Kamau can attest to that, as he is the Co-Founder of Pia, which is a messenger bot, that Connects businesses and customers through messaging, and they had FBStart as a great platform with which they scaled their business.
Tech Crunch Team was also in the house, as they were holding down StartUp BattleField Africa on the 11th of October. You can follow the hashtag #tcbattlefield on social media 🙂, to know how the event was like, and who took the price home. 💁🏼
Thereafter, we had a session with the Facebook Partnerships Session. So, let me do a little introduction, for those who missed our meet-up.
Meet the team:
- Zane Jakusoneka — Developer Circles Program Lead, EMEA at Facebook
- Jennifer Fong — Strategic Product Partnerships, at Facebook
- Proud Dzambukira -Strategic Product Partnerships at Facebook
- Emeka Afigbo — Head of Platform Partnerships, MEA at Facebook
- Matt Terrell — Head of Developer Circles at Facebook
- Ime Archibong — VP, Partnerships at Facebook.
They spoke on why Developer Circles exist and Facebook’s mission to bring the world a little closer. There are so many tools made available to developers to run their start ups, such as FBStart, and communities such as DevC to help share and learn these technologies. And no, it doesn’t have to focus on Facebook alone, you can share and learn anything within technology.
I shall not belabor much on the events of the day. The pictures give a beautiful story of our Special Edition, and I’m sure you can attest to that because you’re probably rocking a cool FB schwag right now.😇 T-shirt, Mug, Pen, Water-Bottle, see…if you didn’t make it, you missed out, but we’d love to see you next time, for our 7th meet up. Details will be shared on our FB page as always, and the rest of the pictures will be available as well on the page.
Enjoy, and see you next time!
Cheers!
