Experience as a Team in the Past Week of Acceleration
Acceleration, as the name implies, is the process of increasing the speed at which an object is being driven. So, it is in a programming or tech world. Acceleration is also defined according to Encarta 2009, as increase in the rate at which something happens or develops. The acceleration period commenced on the 1st of December with three different faculties; PHP NODE and REACT which can be classified into front-end and back-end faculties. But I will be writing on our experience so far from PHP faculty which has about four people. There is a quote which says nobody is an island of knowledge, when two or three people gather together to solve a problem, there is always an increase in knowledge and deeper understanding about what you think you knew. There will be someone that knows what you don't know in a group and through that, knowledge is shared across.
One of the things that we have experienced so far is the ability to understand each other’s weaknesses in approaching a problem be it in programming or real life; and this gives us the chance to be able to help each other, in the area of solving problems; the modular approach has been one of the methods we use or we all solve it together. So far we have spent 5days in this acceleration season, not only solving problems each day but understanding different perspectives of life, self-discipline, self-motivation, derivation of self-joy and finding happiness in whatever you are doing.
During the course of the acceleration, we have been opened to at least part of what we should expect as a back-end developers, clients will want to have good, solid, robust algorithms to perform some functions without the help of human when customers access the web application. Building a solid algorithm is one of the things that we have been exposed to and each day, we are expressly building each other to fit as world class developers. To be candid with you I won’t tell you I’m enjoying this period because we are going through a hot refine, only few people have the understanding of what gold passes through before the glorious shine and people begin to hunger for it, the same is what we are experiencing; to make us the best.
Furthermore, the exposure to different PHP function(s) and how to implement different programming concepts has been part of what we have learnt so far as a faculty, this has widened our understanding and knowledge in this language.
In conclusion, acceleration period has continued to be a moment of leaving your comfort zone — so to say — to tear yourself apart to accumulate new understanding around your programming skill(s). I stand to remain a superior engineer, strive higher and develop with sheer persistence as each day passes on. We are privileged to be part of this season.
