We knew it will be challenging to maintain an active Community at Yabatech, being the first Developer Community for over 70 years as others before us also worked hard to achieve this. As a Lead, I had to change that, using my past experiences in building communities like this and making it a success this far with my core team members.

Venues are always the first thing that comes in mind starting a workshop, we had to go through those who had access to these venues, making sure we built a strong relationship and understanding among ourselves so we can gain access to venues in the future, reaching out to various Faculty, letting them know about our current workshop and how it can benefit them, we shared feedback forms to the students so we could get an understanding of their technical skills asking them what they know and what they would like to learn, to our surprise, most students (Especially Computer Science/engineering) do not have solid knowledge on software development. The only choice we had was to do an Introductory Class which we called “Building web and Android”.

Well, as usual, the Nerves had to kick in (when you looking forward to seeing how many show up), And the turn out was surprisingly encouraging, both students form HND and ND came to learn and showed interest as the NACOS President (Uchenna) showed great support in getting the speakers and other things we needed to make the workshop a successful one.

The Web session was taking by Segun Olumide (myself) and the Android by Charles which we introduced things like Progressive Web Apps and Flutter (we just talked about it o, we didn’t jump), we wanted to make it more interesting so we got a Google Cardboard (You could guess their reactions 😅).

It couldn’t have gotten any better, and this encourages us to make the best out of this Community and help Learners the best way possible.

“Our Developer Student Clubs Journey as Begun, Positive Growth and impact is what we aim to achieve.”

👐 Lets do this !Cheeee 🙌
