From this day onwards, Developers’ Society is moving forward as Developh.
To better serve our Vision-Mission and establish a stronger presence as we grow globally, we are stating that we developh. With a nod to our roots in the Philippines with the ph at the end but a renewal that points our commitment to globalization — we acknowledge that our beliefs and values have always been rooted in development: this is us developing through technology, developing alongside a global community, and pursuing a world where students are behind the development of the next big thing, knowing that they’re capable of stepping in, and that they should be a part of the decision making, processes, and innovation that turns our world at every step.
Developh speaks to the fact that today, we’re more than just a society. Beyond the community that we’ve grown since our founding in 2016, we’re scaling into an organization with a mission set on equitable and inclusive technology everywhere. In reflection of our goals and as an affirmation of our vision to help every child be a creator, founder, and innovator, we’re adopting this new name to attest to how our world is rooted in development with a long way to go. We believe that it’s only innovation if it’s truly inclusive to all — with people from underrepresented backgrounds and communities upheld with their voice on equal grounds to the dominant force in all fields of creation up until today. That is: we develop with everyone in mind, we develop to reach out to these people, and we will continue writing and developing this world that everyone is a part of.
Some facts 💡
PRONUNCIATION — Developh is pronounced as “develop”, with a silent h. No worries about weirdly having to say /develof/. Less talk, more development.
FIRST NAME AND LOGO — Originally intended to be some sort of game development club, our early logo (pictured in the corner of the 2016 image below) featured controller buttons reminiscent of ones in Gameboys.
Looking back 📅
The past few days, we’ve been sharing some images in introspection of our journey from our beginnings in 2016 to our globalization in 2018. This rebranding is renewal in the sense that we have scaled far beyond the scope of what we imagined Developers’ Society would take, and are placing ourselves on a different frontier to reflect the brighter future we continue to build a future for.
We still find it hard to fathom how far we’ve gone in a bit over two years. From hosting whole-day tech events in a friend’s basement to hosting cramped workshops to having our materials reach thousands of more people than we ever expected digitally, to being on the keynote stage of the world’s largest women in tech conference — there is no end to our commitment to tech diversity and inclusivity in the world we come from. With every achievement and with every member who is a part of our story, we continue to code and write the world we believe the youth deserve: that is, a world they take an active part in shaping.
This is for the Philippines, our friends in new countries, and the dialogues we attempt to raise for the very things we believe in. This is for creation. This is for the world.
