There are 70 million women in American churches actively participating right now.

Isn’t that a crazy number? That’s not even the full extent of the women attending — that’s simply the number of women who attend regularly — those who are engaged.

When I first discovered this, one question kept coming to my mind: “What would happen if all of those women just volunteered one hour a month?” What would happen if they used their skills, gifts, and callings to contribute to the ministries in the church. What if they led? What if they donated? What if they gave just one hour per month?

Do you want to know what I discovered?

It means 840 million hours released in the kingdom every year. Think about the impact that would have. Think of the lives that would be changed. Think of the salvations, baptisms, relationships, and growth that would happen. That’s a powerful concept.

So here’s where we come in, as leaders and members of our churches: If it takes a little recruitment on our end — if it takes clarifying a little bit about what we believe about women and how they can contribute — to release 840 million volunteer hours a year, I think we can certainly take the time to invest. We can take the time to do that.

Where are the engaged women in your church? Who are the women who sit around you in the service? Whose children do you minister to every week? Which women do you see in the lobby week after week?

Take the time to let them know they’re wanted, needed, and valued. Take the time to clarify what your church says about where women can lead. And take the time to recruit them into serving somewhere. One conversation can lead to immense kingdom change!
