Alexa Shop Assist
It was great to see a voice-based startup win the Disrupt SF Hackathon. The winner, Alexa Shop Assist, provides a tool through an Alexa Skill that would allow for shoppers to interact with multiple Echos and be able to retain information about the user. This is definitely a great development in that it shows a novel application of ambient voice interaction.
One of the things that I really love about this application is the it highlights what a truly ambient voice interaction could look like and how we’ll interact with technology in the age of ubiquitous computers. We shouldn’t have to carry our phones around with us to be able to access computing. We should just be able to ask for it anywhere.
Hopefully, Alexa Shop Assist and similar skills will help usher in this type of device independent interaction.
