Google Home is coming to Australia!
Google I/O is an annual developer conference held by Google in San Fran. And Google made a big announcement for all those living in Down Under. The Google Home is arriving in down under in Summer (USA Summer), so mid-year. No official date has been announced yet, sadly.
However, Google made an array of other fantastic news relating to the Google Home such as the introduction of hands-free calling (most likely won’t be available when first introduced to Australia), more functions, more actions, better developer assistance, and users being able to use the Google Assistant on the iPhone!
How much will the Google Home cost in Australia?
Google have not announced an official price for the Google Home in Australia but it is most likely going to cost $200 AUD in Australia. The Google Home in America costs $129 so if Google decide to simply convert the price to Australia then Aussie can be looking at a price of $175.
Will we start seeing 3rd Party apps aimed at Australian’s specifically?
There are endless possibilities for the 3rd Party services that could be created that are designed specifically for the Aussie population. Most likely dominoes, and other big players that are already on the Google Home will make sure they are available on the Australian Google Home as well but what else could we see? Large retailers such as Big W, Kmart, JB-Hi-Fi or even supermarkets could start creating services on the device. A simple “Ok Google, buy me some toilet paper from Woolworths” would be ultra useful.
It would also be great to see apps that could maybe translate Australian slang to people who recently moved to Australia. Maybe a service that can help identify the type of spider that is sitting on your bedside table? Anything could happen. Comment below any ideas you have for Australian targeted Google Home services!
So what other countries will start selling the Google Home?
Google announced at Google i/o that the UK, Canada, Australia, France, Germany and Japan will all start selling the Google Home! This is great news. We can’t wait to see this device spread and give us developers wider audiences and different target markets.
Sundar Pitchai (CEO of Google) announced a large amount of new features for the Google Home which we will soon have an article about. These new features will tackle issues that we have been facing as developers and also open up possibilities for new innovation.
