Stourbridge is a regional hotspot for great food, and it’s no surprise that there are hundreds of restaurants throughout the town and its surrounding area. However today I will be talking about the best dine-in restaurants, so no takeaway restaurants will be taken into account within this article. I will be covering the best restaurants that deliver via Just Eat, Deliveroo, Uber Eats etc in a blog in the near future. Whilst many in this list will offer options for delivery, we will be focusing on those that offer the best fine dining experience and service. Also, it should be noted that these are in no particular order and are based mainly on their Tripadvisor reviews, which I’ll embed a link to within the heading of each section, so you can just click on the restaurant’s name to be directed to their review page.

  1. Indiluxe (4.5/5, 651 reviews) — Indian cuisine

Emerging into the Stourbridge food scene over the last 5 years, this restaurant is located within a building that used to host ‘The Old Dial’ public house. They are a new restaurant but are already well established. They offer a menu consisting of Indian cuisine, and they certainly have set a good impression in their short years in business.

People praise them for their quality of service, food, and their reasonable prices, and their review pages are littered with 5-star reviews from their happy customers. Offering a takeaway service as well, this restaurant seems to be the full package when it comes to local Indian cuisine, and will likely be one of the top results for searches such as ‘takeaway near me’, ‘Indian restaurant near me’ etc if you live in the Stourbridge area.

2. Cellars (4.5/5, 509 reviews) — Indian/Bangladeshi cuisine

Located within the competitive food scene of Stourbridge town centre, this establishment has been at the heart of Stourbridge for a very long time and also offers Indian cuisine, as well as Bangladeshi. Located on the lower high street, this restaurant is uniquely characterised by its partly underground setting, hence its name. The restaurant is intimate and dimly lit and offers a romantic atmosphere for couples who are looking for a cosy meal for 2.

Captivating a loyal customer base with their tasty food and great service, it is no wonder that this restaurant has had a foothold in the hearts (or should I say stomachs) of many local diners for so many years. Also offering a takeaway delivery service, you can be sure to find this food business on platforms such as Uber Eats.

3. Bombay Pickles (4.5/5, 471 reviews) — Indian cuisine

This place is also a new addition to the list of restaurants in the town centre. It has only stood in its current location for a few years but has already garnered a reputation as a fantastic place to eat. Along with being the talk of the town for its Indian cuisine, it has a beautifully decorated interior and extremely attentive staff that offers a very caring service.

With it being located literally opposite Cellars on the Lower High Street of Stourbridge, this evidently speaks volumes of its competence as it has managed to not only survive but also thrive whilst in competition with such a mainstay of the local dining scene.

4. Undaal (4.5/5, 395 reviews) — Indian/Bangladeshi cuisine

Undaal is an Indian restaurant located just outside of Stourbridge in the neighbouring town of Brierley Hill. Nestled amongst dozens of other restaurants and takeaways in the same area, it has managed to shine as the brightest and become the most celebrated Indian restaurant in the Brierley Hill area.

Diners reflecting on their experience openly state that this is the best curry house in the DY5 postcode, and it covers all bases with its dine-in experience as well as its takeaway service. With so many local restaurants offering this type of food, the fact that Undaal manages to stand out from the rest shows they are obviously doing something right.

5. Windsor Castle Inn (4.5/5, 671 reviews) — British cuisine/Pub food

Whilst Stourbridge’s neighbouring town, Lye, is typically known for its abundance of quality Indian restaurants, one of a different variety has made a name for itself in recent years. The Windsor Castle Inn is beloved by locals for its hearty pub food, and for its quality beverages.

Offering dishes such as sandwiches and Sunday roast dinners, this pub offers a casual dining experience presented with quality and care. The pub is also home to the Printworks brewery, which brews craft beers on-site which are then served within the pub. The beer here is a big hit with the locals and accompanies the theme of the cuisine perfectly.

6. The Crown at Iverley (4.5/5, 415 reviews) — British cuisine/Pub food

This is yet another restaurant serving pub food in Stourbridge. Located along the Norton road, on the edge of the countryside separating the town from Kidderminster. This pub is beautifully furnished and has equally tranquil surroundings to take in as you enjoy a drink outside.

Offering a more sophisticated take on pub food, this establishment is notable for its Sunday roast dinners as well as its selection of other well-presented dishes, which superbly cater to the needs of vegans and vegetarians. Whether you’re in search of a sophisticated and laid-back dining experience or just a quick and light lunch, The Crown at Iverley might be somewhere to check out.

7. The Why Not Inn (4.5/5, 416 reviews) — British cuisine/Pub food

If you pass through Lye, you will come to a part of Halesowen known as Cradley, and on Why Not street, you will find the similarly named Why Not Inn. Listed on Tripadvisor as the number one place to eat in Cradley, this pub offers a casual service, a friendly atmosphere, and lovely British cuisine that caters to any dietary preference or requirement.

With a gorgeous beer garden decorated with lots of beautiful flowers, this pub may be an ideal place to relax and take in some fresh air and a drink on a summer’s day. Locals say that the staff are friendly and offer great service and that the food is really good, making the place a great host for any looking to enjoy some traditional British pub food.

8. The Fountain at Clent (4.5/5, 1064 reviews) — British cuisine/Pub food/Fine dining

This fine dining establishment located amongst the Clent Hills is surrounded by beautiful scenery, and this is paralleled with the amazing food that is on offer here. They offer traditional British cuisine with a twist, that being the fine dining aspect. They offer a variety of seafood dishes including swordfish and sea bass, and other dishes which may be considered uncommon amongst other pub grub establishments, notably beef wellington.

The staff here are said to be attentive and outgoing, being quick to rectify any errors so as to offer a great experience for guests. This is definitely one of the most highly praised restaurants within the Stourbridge area, and their reviews reflect this suitably.

9. Rainbow Palace (4.5/5, 517 reviews) — Chinese cuisine

One of the lesser-known restaurants in the Lye-Stourbridge food scene, this Chinese restaurant surprisingly has one of the highest ratings on Tripadvisor for miles around. The decor of the restaurant boasts traditional Chinese furnishings and really helps to immerse the diner in the full experience of the cuisine. People say the food at Rainbow Palace is great and that this place is well worth the visit.

With an average 4.5 star rating (out of over 500 reviews), this place is evidently beloved by their loyal customer base. Offering both eat-in and takeaway delivery options, it is easy to see how they are able to connect with so many different people and present such a great image of their business.

10. Il Michelangelo (4.5/5, 872 reviews) — Italian cuisine

This authentic Italian restaurant is located within the area of Brockmoor, Brierley Hill, and offers arguably the best Italian menu for miles around. The staff here are bubbly and outgoing and with them mostly being native Italians, help to set the tone of the meal perfectly. The dishes are superb, offering great taste and being very filling, and the decor is beautiful. The attention to detail that has gone into every aspect of the service here is incredible, with the waiters being very attentive and always knowing when you need assistance, without being overbearing.

It’s the little things that really set this place apart from the rest, and they all combine to provide a wonderful experience to the guest. Dining at Il Michelangelo is perfect for an intimate anniversary meal for two, or for a family gathering and is well worth a visit.

Review for Il Michelangelo on TripAdvisor

To summarise, the local area around Stourbridge has some amazing restaurants and styles to choose from so there will always be something available to cater to your taste, regardless of what you are looking for. These restaurants are the 10 best rated on TripAdvisor for their star-rating in relation to how many reviews they have, but there are certainly other restaurants that could have easily made this list with a bit more exposure. A few notable examples would be The Retreat in Oldswinford and the Crabmill, also in Oldswinford, as well as the highly-touted Cock & Bull on Stourbridge High Street. We may well see a changing of the guard in regards to Stourbridge’s top 10 food businesses in years to come as there are many other restaurants eagerly nipping at the ankles of those with more recognition.
