The history of the Prophets always colored by the world of wandering or, in other languages, rihlah thalabul ‘ilmi or odyssey to study. Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala encourages us to migrate, because with it we can see the broader power of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala. Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala said: “It is He Who made the earth easy for you, so walk in all directions and eat some of His sustenance. And only to Him are you (returned after) resurrected. “(Q.S. al-Mulk [67]: 15)

Sensible people realize that Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala has made the earth spread and easy to live and explore, so walk in all directions and eat some of His sustenance. The universe is not as wide as Moringa leaves. Islam raises awareness for us to explore, to be pioneers.

Even the most successful and successful figures of the day do not escape the story of their overseas. Going abroad is the process of self-maturation both in people’s villages, people’s cities or even people’s lands. The migrants go to impressive lengths to leave far away from their homes to reach the noble goal of studying. We can take lots of wisdom from overseas fruit.

Imam Shafi’i is a brilliant scholar with intelligence and sophistication, words full of wisdom.

Imam Shafi’i is born into a poor family. Since childhood, he had left his father and become an orphan. Because of his enthusiasm for studying, then at 14, Imam Shafi’i migrated. Fatimah al-Azdiy, Imam Shafi’i’s mother, understands the surge of enthusiasm in her children’s hearts to explore knowledge. There is no other choice but to release the child to study abroad.

Imam Shafi’i’s departure to many countries ranging from Mecca, Medina, Yemen, Baghdad Iraq, to Egypt to study is not from the treasure that accompanies it, but a string of sincere and beautiful prayers that led to his departure “O God, God who rules over all nature. My child will walk away, leaving me to your happiness. I will release it to study the knowledge of your messenger. Therefore, I plead with you, O Allah, make matters easier, safeguard his safety, extend his age so I can see him later with a chest full of useful knowledge.

Imam Shafi’i is someone diligent in seeking knowledge, because of his diligence, at nine years, Imam Shafi’i could memorize the Qur’an and several hadiths. Not only memorization, his knowledge was already deep. His father died when he was little, then his mother took him to Mecca. Fatimah al-Azdiy, the mother of two children with poor conditions and lack of all, has the noble aspirations to make her children become knowledgeable children.

It was reported that because of his poverty, Imam Shafi’i could hardly prepare the learning equipment needed, so he was forced to search for paper that was not used, or had been wasted but could still be used for writing. After studying the Qur’an and the hadith, Imam Shafi’i completes his knowledge by studying Arabic language and literature. So he went to the countryside and joined the Banu Huzail, the most fluent Arabic tribe. From this tribe, Imam Shafi’i studied Arabic language and poetry, so he mastered it well.

The advice of Imam Shafi’i :

From Abu Hurairah, he said that the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam said, “Whoever goes the way to seek knowledge, then Allah will make it easy for him on the way to heaven.” (H.R. Muslim, no. 2699)

Besides the above hadith, there is also advice from Imam Shafi’i so that someone goes to migrate, leave the comfort zone, into a new territory, a new atmosphere, new experiences, meet new people because with it all, implicitly we will find a lot of wisdom inside it. This advice is enshrined in its verses:

Remaining silent, stagnant, and settled in a place of residence, is actually not a rest for those who have reason and manners, then wander off, leave your country (for the sake of seeking knowledge and glory).

Migrate, you will find a substitute for the people you leave behind. Sweat for you in your efforts and efforts, because the deliciousness of a new life is felt after you feel the effort and sweat in working and trying.

I see the water that stagnates in silence, it will be polluted and then rot. If only the water flowed, it would taste deliciously refreshing. Not so if he does not move flow.

A herd of lions. If they did not leave their nests, surely their hunting skills were untrained, they would die of hunger.

Arrows, if they don’t leave their bows, don’t even dream about going to the target.

If the sun in its orbit does not move and keeps silent, surely humans are bored of it and are reluctant to look.

If the gold ore is still buried in the rocks, it is just a piece of worthless stone, which is abandoned in its place of origin. Likewise, agar wood in the wilderness, only a piece of wood, just like any other ordinary wood.

If only the agar wood comes out of the wilderness of the forest, it is a high-value perfume. And if the ore were out of place, it would become precious gold.

The conclusion is that going abroad to travel will challenge, mature themselves while providing opportunities to explore experiences that will become valuable heritage. During migrations, we will also get compensation for what we leave behind, because the genuine joy of living is after the fatigue of struggle. The last thing to remember is laziness can not get that glory.
