“How Do I Migrate Everything to Azure Functions?”
The question was asked after a Meetup presentation, by one of the attendees, about Microsoft Azure Functions.
The host just had made a presentation about this serverless technology, presenting the benefits and giving a few good reasons to use it.
When he finished, he opened for questions, and one of the attendees raised his hand and said:
It looks great, I see the benefits, but what is the plan to migrate all my system, my layers, to functions? How do I migrate everything to use Azure Functions?
The presenter didn’t think too much and quickly answered:
You don’t.
Incredulous, the attendee continued:
But you just said that it is an amazing technology, I pay by usage, I can create functions in C#… why wouldn’t I move everything to Azure Functions?
And the presenter, once again, reinforced:
Trust me, you don’t want to do that.
He couldn’t be more right and assertive on his answer. And, don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with Azure Functions. I’m an advocate to Microsoft Azure — witch I have few certifications — and Azure Functions is an amazing service.
