Admit it that we’ve all been there, working till 3 a.m. to resolve that prod issue and bring the application up.

Often we can predict before the operational issue comes up, and sometimes we can’t. But what if we can get a suggestion to address these issues through a tool or a service.

This is where the AWS DevOps Guru comes in. Amazon DevOps Guru, a completely managed operations service, makes it easy for developers and operators to enhance the usability of applications by identifying operational problems automatically and suggesting fixes. DevOps Guru applies machine learning with years of operational excellence from Amazon.com and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to automatically capture and evaluate data such as application measurements, logs and events to detect activities that deviate from usual operating patterns.

As more companies migrate to the production of cloud-based systems, applications have become increasingly complex and disparate, making it difficult to handle operational performance. To maintain application availability and reduce the time and effort spent identifying and fixing operational problems that lead to expensive downtime, developers and IT operations teams need more automated activities.

How does it work?

According to their blog the DevOps Guru machine learning models exploit AWS experience in running highly accessible software. DevOps Guru detects operational issues automatically, details potential triggers, and suggests actions for remediation. DevOps Guru offers clients a single console experience that supports Amazon CloudWatch, AWS Config, AWS CloudTrail, AWS CloudTrail and AWS CloudTrail to scan and visualize operational data by integrating data from multiple sources.

The service will send an SMS, Slack message or other contact to the team when it notices a problem and offers suggestions about how to address the issue as soon as possible.

What’s more, instead of a monthly price, you pay for the data analyzed by the service. The business says this implies that there is no upfront expense or dedication involved.

Benefits

  • Automatically detect operational issues
  • Resolve issues quickly with ML-powered insights
  • Easily scale and maintain availability
  • Reduce noise and alarm fatigue

Amazon DevOps Guru is available for preview in US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), Europe (Ireland), and Asia Pacific (Tokyo).
