This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me. — Psalms 119:50

The word of God has the power to heal. When we are afflicted and downtrodden. We can come to Christ and he will heal us. He never rejects any who comes to him. As we navigate the hurdles of daily life, we can often find major obstacles, yet we have nothing to fear. Just as we are, in our burdened state, we can come to claim the promises of God. And our mourning will turn into joy. In the word of God, we will find comfort in every woe.

The Psalmist admits that his comfort is found in the word of God. The text gives us the impression the author was distressed, maybe even when nowhere else to turn. And the author possibly looks for ways to address their affliction but found no hope. Yet, by turning to the word of God, the author found a new life. The very same one who was previously afflicted has found life. The passage reveals the joy of this delightful experience. And the author testifies by giving us the secret to his experience. He pointed to the word of God as the reason for the turnaround.

What a beautiful testimony. We can also share that experience. Many are overlooking the word of God when they go through difficulties. Through the pages of the Bible, we can find encouragement for every circumstance. Sadly in the modern culture, very few emphasize the importance of digesting God’s word. Many rely on feeling. And even in Christian circles, we find a minute emphasis on the power of the word of God. Instead of relying on the word of God for healing, many are looking for pep talks and motivational speeches from a guest speaker. In many assemblies, the word is replaced by vision-casting and dreams that are unable to console the afflicted.

To all who are afflicted, here is an open secret. The word of God has the power to heal. In all our trials, we can come to Christ and he will heal us. This healing is not merely a mental exercise. Not at all. It is the manifestation of God for our benefit. By reading the Bible, we do not have to receive any false promises from men. Even though we may be afflicted, the truth found in the world of God will console us. We may not have all the answers that we desire at once. But, God will never leave us comfortless. Here is our comfort in our affliction. The word of God will revive us.

Do you believe that God can heal your affliction?

The Prayer — Heavenly Father, Revive us through your word In Jesus’s name. Amen!
