Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: — Colossians 1:12

Salvation belongs to the Lord. He is the one who transforms our lives to make us eligible to become partakers of the inheritance of the saints. Faith enables us to know that God can give us a new life. We are invited to look to Christ as the author and finisher of our faith. At every step of the Christian Journey, all the credit goes to Christ. He is the one who started a good work in us. And He is the one who will prepare us to become heirs of the kingdom of God.

Paul invites us to have a disposition of thanksgiving. Many times we overlook the wonderful works of God in our lives. And instead of thanksgiving, we complain much. The children of Israel enjoyed murmuring. And this was the reason that many of them did not enjoy the blessings that God intended for them. We should not follow in their steps. Instead of murmuring, let us find the occasion to praise God for his wonderful work in our lives. We should not take for granted the graces that Christ provides for us. While we are yet sinners, He is calling us to the inheritance of the saint.

We should not think for a second that we are too vile to become partakers of this inheritance. If we are willing, Christ will transform us. We simply have to accept the gift that He provides. No matter how sinful we may be, the grace of Christ is sufficient for us. Now is our opportunity to accept and give thanks to God for choosing us to inherit his attributes though we are unworthy. Eternal life is a gift. The wages of our sin should have caused us to be blotted out of existence. But, Christ died so that we may have life. And because He conquers death, we have the assurance of eternal life.

We are called to give thanks for this miraculous gift. We are heirs of the realm of the blessed. Our thanksgiving is not in word only, but in belief also. If we say that we are thankful for salvation and the promise of the kingdom to come, we should cease sin. Though we are powerless to achieve this in our strength, we can surrender all to Christ. If we deliberately continue to live only to ourselves, then we do not belong to Christ. The truth is we cannot serve God and this world at the same time. If we are thankful for the gift, then we must appreciate the gift. By the grace of God, even today we can become partakers of his divine nature. But having the word of God live out in us, we shall become like him. Let us give thanks to God for making heirs according to his promise.

Do you want the promised inheritance?

The Prayer — Heavenly Father, Thanks for making us fit for inheritance of the saints In Jesus’s name. Amen!
