There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god. — Psalms 81:9

The commandments of God are promises. They are simply what God intends to do for us if we surrender our lives to him. This is why we can never keep the commandment of God in our power. To even attempt this impossibility is to ridicule God. The recipe is given to us. The just shall live by faith. Let us accept it. This is the only way that the just can live. Any other method is a scam. We cannot make ourselves righteous. Only God can do that for us. If we would only believe in the word of God, we shall have fewer fabricated worries and issues.

Because the commandments of God are promises, they are simply the law of liberty. It is a moral outline of our freedom when we accept Christ. Yet, some have turned the grace of God into lasciviousness. And because many fail to understand the true essence of grace, they continue in sin when God promises freedom. The presence of sin in our life is an indication that the Spirit of God does not abide with us. As we come to God, he will do a way for us that we shall never do for ourselves. He will not only declare us righteous verbally, but he will declare us righteous in the practical details of life as well.

If we take for example the first commandment: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” Some might be tempted to think that God is bossing them around. No this is not the case at all. God is not demanding here that we refuse to have another god before him. Instead, He is giving us the promise that it shall not happen. If we come to God, there will be no need for another god. And the very existence of other gods in our lives is a sign to us that we have not surrendered ourselves totally to Christ. In this first commandment, God is giving us a precious promise. That there shall be no strange god among us. When we come to him, the need for another god disappears. He provides all for us.

The same logic continues with all the other commandments. God has given us the guarantee that He will do great things for us. When God says “thou shall not commit adultery.” He means exactly what He says. Namely, “thou shall not commit adultery.” The promise is simple. Adultery will not happen in your life. That is the promise: It will not happen. Again. Thou shalt not commit adultery. We may even wonder: “Really, I am not going to commit adultery?”. Well, it is so by faith. This is God’s promise. Believe and He takes care of the rest. If we are willing to believe it, here is a promise: you shall not worship any strange god.

Do you believe in the promises of God?

The Prayer — Heavenly Father, Realize your will in our life In Jesus’s name. Amen!
