Announcing the Grantees for Dev Dapp Starter Grants

At the end of July, last year, the Dev Dapp Starter Grants was announced. The goal was to introduce new ways to use Dev Protocol, creating blockchain applications that use the Dev Protocol technology stack in a way to generate sustainable, long term growth of the whole ecosystem. Since then we have received 12 great applications from teams, developers and community members. Between these 12 applications, each category received:

  • Development of Dapps to provide a new user experience of “support” — 5 applications
  • Tutorial to Learn Dev Protocol Developing Dapps — 4 applications
  • Development of Dapps to provide a new user experience for OSS tokens — 3 applications

All candidates showed incredible skills and with many innovative and interesting ideas involving Dev Protocol, it was a hard task to pick only 3 winners at this time. We would like to thank everyone that submitted their Dapp proposals, hopefully all of your ideas can mature and be among the finalists in the next round.

Without further ado, today we are excited to announce that the 3 Grantees in the first Dev Dapp Starter Grant are:

  • Learn the Part by Jed Slim
  • Trigger by Motoaki Tanaka
  • DevNFT by WebXDAO

Congratulations to the three applicants of Dapps for winning this round! Their excellent ideas will be described after comments from the great judges that participated in this grant:

Grantees

Learn the Part
Learn the Part by Jed Slim will use the staking mechanism powered by Dev Protocol to fund course creators.

One of the most interesting features of “Learn the Part” is that it has an educational facet for users. Staking is thought to be an intrinsic and common function for Dapps, but it looks Jed went a step further from that point. He created a design where an opportunity of learning occurs at the timing when the lock period starts, which not only serves two ends but sounds efficient and motivational for users. We’d like to highly value Jed’s suggestion of using sTokens as a means to validate staking by students as well.

Trigger
Trigger by Motoaki Tanaka can enhance the development continuity of OSS by providing a mechanism to pay rewards for contributions to OSS with Dev tokens.

In order to tackle the issue of OSS projects’ continuity, Motoaki came up with an idea of “Trigger”, which enables developers to get profits for the sustainability of their projects. Unique points of the Dapps is that the combination of two applications (a transferer and a Github bot) would make it possible for developers to have an easy and smooth way of receiving rewards, and would foster OSS providers to create incentives as well as register on Stakes.social to make great use of DEV tokens.

DevNFT
We were quite thrilled with excitement about WebXDAO’s groundbreaking proposal of “DevNFT”, as it effectively incentives enthusiastic developers by NFTs. It is potentially expected that their Dapps serves as one of the functions to attract supporters and patrons, which would result in the expansion of the community. Vincent mentioned that DAO membership would be given to those who have DEV tokens, which is a vital foundation to build a sustainable ecosystem being open to community feedback and votes.

Grantees will be invited to the grantee channel (tentative name) to discuss plans and details of their Dapps. According to the terms and conditions of our grant system, a certain amount of payment will be allocated to each of the grantees in accordance with their progress of the development.

Participation certificate NFT

It took us a bit of time to plan and advertise the grant program as well as review all the candidates’ applications, but now we could finally take our first step to collaborate with three grantees for developing innovative Dapps that would have a positive influence on the ecosystem as a whole.

We’re looking forward to seeing your unique ideas of Dapps for the next round!

About Dapps development on Dev Protocol

Using Dev Protocol, anyone can build new applications to support creators. All the functions are available in the JavaScript SDK, so even those without experience in smart contract development can easily start developing Dapp.
