Answering Questions About Dev

I will answer some questions about Dev, a token designed for OSS.

In the term, “Download Numbers Across All Packages,” used in distribution rate calculations, what does “All Packages” refer to?

It refers to the total number of downloads of all npm packages registered on Dev.

The original wording was ambiguous as to whether it referred to downloads of all npm packages, or just the packages registered on Dev, so we’ve changed the explanations on the blog story and our website.

Won’t the download counts get inflated?

As far as I’m aware, there have been no reports of people inflating download numbers on npm. However, this may be different for DevToken. That’s why we’re currently releasing an alpha version so we can understand the situation.

If we notice any unnatural changes in download counts, we will deal with them when they come up.

We are also looking at implementing other evaluation criteria besides the download count.

How do the people running it make a profit?

The increase in value of the Dev tokens held by the company will be our profit.

A wide range of people, including developers, investors, and supporters, can get involved with DevToken, but we will not charge any usage or handling fees.

To me, the fact that you can build this kind of ecosystem is one of the token economy’s greatest strengths.

The goal of Dev is for developers to utilize their true potential to create a world with the greatest possible amount of creativity — we call this the Creative Universe.

We don’t have a lot of experience yet, but we are going to keep working to help OSS developers.

We are planning to create a Spectrum for Dev soon. I will make an announcement when we’ve completed this. Thank you all for your continued support.
