The OpenStreetMap community is headed to Bangalore this weekend for the fourth edition of State of the Map Asia. This has been a year in the making and I’ve been helping anchor all areas of the conference — a full two days filled with talks, workshops, learning, and sharing ideas.

A lot of Development Seed’s projects touch OpenStreetMap. Urchn, for example, looks at urban change through OpenStreetMap data and satellite imagery and helps identify where your map is out-of-date, OpenRoads uses the OpenStreetMap infrastructure for road investment monitoring, and osm-seed helps anyone spin up an instance of OpenStreetMap with or without data. We’re excited to share these projects with you as OSM continues to be widely adopted for humanitarian, urban, and commercial uses.

On Saturday, November 17 at 2:40pm, Sanjay Bhangar will talk about osm-seed and how you can use OSM tools easily in your next data project. At the core, osm-seed is a bunch of Docker containers tied together to work just like how OSM works. We’ve been using osm-seed extensively in projects like Electric Grid Mapping.

On Sunday, November 18 at 2:20pm, I will run a workshop introducing everyone new to OpenStreetMap. And if you want to learn more about SOTM and have questions, catch me anytime during the conference.

The conference is at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore

If you’re planning to be at the conference, hit me or Sanjay up. See you in Bangalore!
