About 40,000 years ago, man discovered the benefits of rotary tools. While these early drills weren’t much more than a pointed rock spun between open palms, today’s modern drilling tools are mechanically powered, can drill holes of nearly any size into nearly any material and can be operated just about anywhere you need them — thanks in part to motorized pneumatic and battery powered technologies.

The modern drill is often used to bore holes in wood, metal or masonry and is typically powered by an electric motor that consumes either alternating electrical current through a power cord or uses a direct current battery pack (although some drills use compressed air or a combustion engine to rotate the drill bit). While most drills have a basic locking chuck that holds the bit in place while it rotates, the hammer drill creates a percussive action in the chuck as it rotates, allowing denser materials like stone and concrete to be drilled with ease.

Why Is DeWalt The Industry Leader In Drills?

DeWalt tools are not only the industry leader in drilling tools, but they’re also the industry leader in most contractor-grade power tools. With a product line of over 200 tools and nearly 1,000 accessories, DeWalt not only has the tools you need to be more productive, but also quality products that are designed to last through even the most abusive of jobsites.

But don’t take my word for it; DeWalt drills are backed one of the best warranties on the market. A 90-day money back guarantee, a three year limited warranty and a one year free service contract on maintenance and parts ensures that these drills are going to be the hardest working and longest lasting drills in your power tool arsenal.

Whether you’re looking to buy the small and light DeWalt DCD760KL or you need a more heavy duty hammer drill like the DeWalt DCD970KL, the 18 volt lithium-ion batteries are some of the best in the field. With working times lasting for hours and charge times of 30 minutes or less, it’s easy to see why DeWalt cordless tools have the best cordless drills on the market.

Features of the DeWalt DCD970KL

The DeWalt DCD970KL is a cordless ½-in. hammer drill that makes quick work of concrete, stone and brick, as well as drills through wood like a hot knife through butter. With a modest price of around $250, you’ll get a powerful drill, two lithium-ion 18V battery packs, a 30 minute quick charger and convenient hard body carrying case. It also sports a powerful 3 speed, 2,000 rpm (34,000 bpm’s) motor, has 22 clutch settings and weighs in at just 5.5 lbs., easily making it my choice for the best hammer drill in its class. Features of the DeWalt DC970K-2

This powerful drill/driver combination kit has a high performance motor that delivers 1,500 rpm’s of performance. It features a ½-inch single sleeve keyless ratcheting chuck that makes for a tighter grip around the bit, yet still allows you to easily and quickly release the bit by hand. The DC970K-2 is small enough to fit into most tight spaces, and only weighs 5.2 pounds with the battery pack; so your arm won’t get worn out using it all day. It even comes with two battery packs and a one hour charger so you won’t have to spend down time waiting for batteries to charge. DC970K-2 review

Features of the DeWalt DCD760KL

The DeWalt DCD760KL is a great all-purpose drill. While it’s similar to the DCD970KL, it doesn’t offer a hammer drill feature, is a little lighter on the power and features a plastic chuck versus a metal one. It’s typically priced around $190 or less and uses the same powerful and long lasting 18V lithium-ion batteries that the DCD970KL offers (in fact, they are interchangeable with all DeWalt 18V tools). With a max power of 1,700 rpms, 17 clutch settings and a total weight of just 4 lbs. this cordless drill is my all-time favorite multi-purpose drill from DeWalt. DCD760KL review

Features of the DeWalt DC825B

The DeWalt DC825B is a bare bones tool — that means it doesn’t come with a battery pack, charger or case — it’s just the tool alone. However, this 1/4-inch 18-volt cordless impact driver does come equipped with a powerful motor that provides 1,130 in-lbs. of torque, so fastening even the longest of screws through the hardest of woods is fast and easy. The DeWalt DC825B also features replaceable brushes, a textured ergonomic anti-slip grip and a frameless motor for long life. If you’re looking for the most powerful fastener in the DeWalt lineup, then this little tool is the one for the job. Just be sure you have a battery pack and charger from another tool DeWalt 18-volt tool. DC825B review
