As a designer, you have the power to shape the world in which we live. The design itself is an extremely broad umbrella, and there are many different routes you can take.

There are several types of design jobs that will allow you to exercise your creativity day in and day out.   1. UX Designer: As a UX designer, you’ll go through each step in the UX design process to make sure that any and all products are designed with the user in mind. So what kinds of tasks can you expect to carry out? These can be some common tasks of a UX designer on day to day basis.
  • Conducting user research
  • Personas and information architecture
  • User flows and wireframes
  • Prototyping and user testing

2. UI Designer: UI Designer is a technical role. They are responsible for presenting a website, application, or platform in a way that is appealing and easy to navigate for users. They are responsible for creating interactive programs that enhance a customer’s experience with a brand and facilitate an enjoyable experience on a website. As a UI designer, it is your job to ask and answer

  • Does this font suit the brand tone?
  • Are the right colors used?
  • Is the app well-designed?
  • How can I make this website more appealing?

3. Product Designer: A product designer is responsible for the user experience of a product, usually taking direction on the business goals and objectives from product management. Although typically associated with the visual/tactile aspects of a product, product designers can sometimes also play a role in the information architecture and system design of a product as well.

Product designers have a number of artifacts they may deliver as part of their job, including but limited to:

  • Prototypes
  • Wireframes
  • Mockups
  • User Journey Maps

4. Web Designer: Web designers build or redesign websites. They understand what it takes to make a website functional and easy to use, but also understand what is needed to make it aesthetically appealing to the user. The web design role might include the following tasks or responsibilities:

  • Designing web pages or whole websites
  • Designing site navigations
  • Mocking up mobile-first and/or responsive websites that look good on all sizes of screens
  • Coding pages or sites using HTML and/or styling those projects via stylesheets and CSS

5. Graphic Designer: Graphic design is all around us. It influences how we perceive the world using colors, photos, fonts, and illustrations. Take a moment to look at the design in the objects around you and you will see that someone put thought into making them both functional and appealing. There are many jobs within the graphic design field to choose from each requiring its own set of special skills. Careers with design can range from a multimedia designer, flash, sports graphic designers, website design to art director, the scope of the graphic designer is vast, increasing the number of possibilities for those interested in a graphic design career.
