Dexpay Community Update July
We are live in our first restaurant in Berlin!
We are very happy to announce that Orlando Sicilia Food is officially the first business to use Dexpay to accept xDAI as payment!
On the 25th of June 2019, we presented Dexpay on an evening event in Orlando. After a short demo of the product, friends, attendants to the event and curious customers had the opportunity to pay for their drinks and food using xDAI and test Dexpay.
About half of the participants were familiar with DAI although we had to explain the reason behind xDAI and how to bridge DAI to xDAI. Some of them exchanged their Eth to DAI first.
We offered a few drinks and a walkthrough to curious non-coiners that downloaded Dexwallet and in general, everyone was surprised about how fast and easy was to pay even though they found a little challenging to grasp why they should use this as an alternative to their credit cards.
In this regard, we think there are a few use cases worth exploring in which crypto payments would be a better, if not the only solution available:
Many payment gateways are NOT crypto friendly
Stripe, a major player in the payment processing for internet businesses, has Restricted many categories of business from using their services. Among the others, they list “Financial and professional services”, “Virtual currency or stored value” and “Video game or virtual world credits”.
Payment gateways and personal crowdfunding platforms are cracking down on NSFW content creators
This happened in the past, Cindy Gallop gave a magnificent talk about why limiting adult industry is a missing business opportunity for creators and investors alike. Recently Patron, a membership platform to fund content and support artists, has now taken a step further against NSFW content.
Avg currency exchange rates offered by banks and credit cards are inconvenient
If you are i.e. traveling to a foreign country you will either pay a high fee to exchange cash for cash at the local money exchange shop or automatic conversion rate offered by your bank would apply each time you make a payment or withdraw money from the ATM.
